POLICE are investigating a sexual attack on a woman next to a Highland nightclub as New Year celebrations went on.

The assault happened at about 1.30am this morning and the victim was attacked in the area of “the tunnel” by the Vault Nightclub in Aviemore.

Police Scotland has appealed for help, with a spokesman adding: “We are looking to trace persons who may have been in the area at this time.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.”

Appeal after man attacked in Inverness

Meanwhile, police have also appealed for witnesses after a man was left seriously injured following an attack in Inverness in the early hours of New Year.

The assault happened on Huntly Street at about 3.30am.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and may have information.

Call for witnesses after man assaulted on B9153

Officers are also appealing for witnesses after a 34-year-old man was assaulted at 12.45pm on Monday while he was walking on the B9153 Carrbridge to Kinveachy Road.

Following the incident, a number of passing drivers stopped to help the man who was about 6ft tall, wearing dark waterproofs and carrying a large rucksack.

Police have appealed for them to come forward.
