Talk of the Town: Glamour star's gig nobbled by knee

IT MIGHT have been the perfect way to get over those post-election blues – a chance to see former glamour model Sam Fox singing her greatest hits.

Sadly, audiences in the Capital will have to wait a little longer to see the icon in concert, after she cancelled the gig.

The star – who released her greatest hits earlier this year – has called off the show after having an operation on her knee.

Tickets have been refunded, leaving fans with only the irony that one of the songs sure to be performed would have been Nothing's Gonna Stop Me Now.

Fundraising suggestion stopped in its tracks

HAVING rolled into Edinburgh last week, the city's first tram seems to have become something of a tourist attraction in its own right.

In its first week on show, more than 11,000 people popped in for a look.

Of course, with the problems related to the project piling up, it doesn't go anywhere and there is no conductor to charge you for a ticket.

But for some councillors, that is something of a missed opportunity. During a recent council meeting, Tory Kate McKenzie caused a few chuckles when she asked council leader Jenny Dawe if she had considered raising much-needed funding by installing a donation box on the city's new attraction.

To which she got the one word response "No".

That'll teach them

EDUCATION leader Marilyne MacLaren is well known as one of the more controversial figures on the council.

Never scared to voice an opinion, she has a sometimes volatile relationship with some parents and opposition politicians.

Judging by a recent council meeting, she is beginning to revel in it. Every time she was questioned by councillors, her retort was that they were not understanding the issue. It happened so many times that one councillor pointed out that it was something of a stock answer.

Playing up to the accusation like a pantomime villain, Councillor MacLaren said: "I think that you are (dramatic pause) misunderstanding the issue."

It was so well timed that those in the opposition groups had to forget their rivalries and cheer.
