Right move

Bill Jamieson (Between the Lines, 25 May), in relation to the proposed Money Guidance Scheme, asks, what could a new financial advice centre supply that all these worthy publications and websites fail to do?

The answer is obvious: face-to-face discussions with someone who can impart knowledge in a relatively easy-to-understand manner. There are times when this is a must, it's what a customer (the public) requires and expects, and we should not be pinning all our information sources purely on websites and click-ons.

I do not disagree with his list of excellent publications and websites, but Mr Jamieson does seem rather obsessed with websites. I accept we live a in fast-moving technological age, but not everyone has easy access to the internet.

Finally, if I have a criticism of the proposed scheme, it may be that budgeting and debt management advice cut across what well-known agencies such as Citizens Advice already do.
