Since the government has started cutting public sector jobs and funding, you would think local authorities would be being encouraged to help new businesses. This, sadly, couldn’t be further from the truth.

My friends and I have been trying to set up tours in Glasgow for six months and have encountered brick wall after brick wall. We sent a proposal to take tours around the Glasgow Necropolis to the council five months ago and have heard nothing since.

We also contacted it about city centre tours and, again, have not heard a word. Every time we have tried to contact someone in the council we have been told they’re “in a meeting” or are “not available”. This has left the business in a frustrating limbo and we have had to suspend the project temporarily as our money and patience is running out.

We thought these tours would be a great way to promote the city, its people and Scotland to the world. We have been treated as if we’ve been trying to hatch a terrorist plot rather than an interesting, well researched and positive business plan.
