Moral questions

IN REPLY to Leslie Thomson (letters, 2 September), of course “there is a higher incidence of STIs among heterosexual people than among the LGBT community”, because the so-called heterosexual community is about 50 times bigger than the “LGBT community”.

Does Mr Leslie really believe that the NHS has “no evidence” for its claim that “research shows people with same-sex partners may have a higher risk of contracting certain conditions, for instance gay men are at higher risk of HIV”.

The claim that mental health problems among those engaging in homosexual sex are “due to stress and depression caused by societal pressures and homophobia” is undermined by the fact that the problems persist in even the most “progressive” countries.

I still do not believe that young children should be prompted to question their own sexuality. I do not accept the suggestion that LGBT five-year-olds will be made to feel like “outcasts” if they do not encounter same-sex couples in their storybooks.
