Letter: Trust lacks tact

It was surprising to read in your report of the substantial benefit to the National Trust for Scotland arising from the sad demise of an American millionaire, the trust's fundraiser in the US offering the judgment that the deceased had only a Brigadoon-inspired view of Scotland "like many Americans" (4 December).

Even if there is a grain of truth in this, it is hardly the way to win friends and raise funds at this time of dire need.
