Letter: Opposition time

The rhetoric from some members of the media, portraying Ed Miliband as some sort of retrograde left-wing militant, is complete and utter nonsense.

It may be that "the champagne corks will be popping in Downing Street" but they're Tories, and certainly can afford champagne.

No, after the many years of right-wing Thatcherism, followed by the Blairite years of sleaze and spin, the public can now go back to recognisable politics, with clear distinctions between parties.

With their aggressive policies of cuts, it may be that David Cameron and George Osborne are the only "militants on the block". The partnership of the Con-Dems is farcical, and it appears Nick Clegg is leading his party back to oblivion. Mr Clegg has peaked politically and his true vocation may lie with membership of the Conservative Party.

Ed Miliband has never clouded his beliefs in social justice and social conscience, and has always unconditionally supported his party leader.

It's worth remembering, on the day of the failed cabinet coup against Gordon Brown, it took some six hours plus before David Miliband declared his support for Mr Brown.

The Labour Party has decided, and Ed Miliband is the chosen leader. Let's now look to the future, healthy politics, government and strong opposition.

I have laughed at the new Labour leader indulging in the demolition of the last government and its leader. He must have slept through the cabinet meetings or did he agree with the policies when it suited him? Whatever plaudits are heaped on him by the party faithful, loyalty will not be top of the list.
