Letter: Kohima Epitaph

I REFER to your article about the Cenotaph service commemorating the 65th anniversary of VJ Day (16 August). How disappointing it was to see the Kohima Epitaph misquoted, not only in the text of the article, but even more noticeably in the headline.

Those who died gave their "today", and not their "day" as quoted. There is a subtle difference here: giving their "today" meant giving up a whole future too. The bravery, dedication and sacrifices of those who fought and died, and of those too who survived, deserve a recognition which illustrates some consideration and compassion.
