Heated debate

My attention has been drawn to Calum Wilson’s article (Platform, 3 October) regarding Forth Energy’s proposal to build biomass plants. Until the second law of thermodynamics is disproved, the generation of electrical energy from heat energy is inherently inefficient, as demonstrated by Mr Wilson’s figures.

The capital cost and major engineering work that would need to be put in place to use even a fraction of the heat energy is prohibitive.

This enormous amount of waste energy – 320MW according to Mr Wilson – negates any claims that the use of biomass on this scale represents a sustainable energy source.
