Good sport

It was a great day for Scotland when Eilidh Child won her silver medal at the Commonwealth Games and did her lap of honour wrapped in the Saltire. And a couple of weeks later, wrapped in the Union Jack with her three English colleagues, she looked equally delighted when she won another medal, for Britain this time, in the European Championships relay.

Could there be a clearer illustration of what “Better Together” and “The Best of Both Worlds” mean – or a starker illustration of what Scotland, and athletes like Eilidh, will lose if we break away from the rest of Britain?

Independence would close the door not just on our best athletes, but on countless future generations of Scots.
