English’s demise

I wholeheartedly agree with the views of Ross Muir
(Letters, 29 November), with regard to the appalling standard of spoken and written English by young people today.

I have just received a promotional newsletter from a hair salon in Stockbridge, Edinburgh.

The headline reads: “[X’s] hairdressing are offering there client’s an amazing christmas offer noone can’t refuse!” (sic).

I can see, at a glance, six
errors in spelling, punctuation and grammar in this sentence.

I cannot understand why there has been such a serious
demise in teaching standards.
