Cold comfort

While it is bad news that Scotland’s greenhouse gas emissions rose by 9 per cent last year (your report, 1 September), it is unfortunate commentators have difficulty in distinguishing between weather and climate; a cold winter does not overturn the consensus of the most credible climate scientists that long-term global temperatures are increasing.

It is also sad that they didn’t know that growth in Scotland’s green economy can help the country out of recession. The Scottish Government has estimated that 130,000 new jobs will be created in the low carbon sector by 2020 alone.
