No taser testing slammed

AMNESTY has criticised Scottish ministers for not testing taser guns being piloted by Strathclyde Police

The Home Office has stripped Pro-Tect Systems of its licence for supplying the X-12 tasers, which were used on Raoul Moat. The X-26 tasers used by Strathclyde have been tested by the Home Office, but not by the Scottish Government.

John Watson, of Amnesty International, said: "It seems that the Home Office agree with us that the law requires political scrutiny and approval before further deployment of firearms."

A Scottish Government spokesman said: "Police do not need authorisation from Scottish ministers in order to use tasers."
