Nando's serves up first Scots high street outlet

CHICKEN restaurant chain Nando's has chosen the Capital as the base for its first outlet on a Scottish high street.

The chain, which already has an outlet at Fountain Park, is to open a new branch on Lothian Road as part of an ambitious expansion programme in Scotland.

The South African company has signed a 25-year lease for the new unit, which is due to open in March.

Isla Monteith, an agent for property firm Cushman & Wakefield, which represented Nando's in the deal, said: "Nando's has been delighted with the response to its restaurant in Fountain Park, which is extremely busy and staff have been inundated with requests from customers to open another outlet in the city. The new restaurant in Lothian Road is their first venture on to the high street in Scotland and is part of their ongoing plans to expand into prime locations in the major cities.

"Until now they have largely concentrated on retail/leisure parks, but encouraged by the response from diners are now moving into the city centres."
