MSP criticises Salmond snub

the MSP heading the Scottish Parliament's investigation into The Gathering has voiced his "disappointment" at Alex Salmond's refusal to appear to give evidence on his involvement with the controversial loss-making event.

The First Minister said former culture minister Mike Russell would attend instead.

But audit committee convener Hugh Henry said: "Members felt the First Minister's personal involvement justifies his appearance before the committee. It is disappointing he has chosen to decline our invitation."

Mr Henry noted the committee has powers to compel the attendance of witnesses. But he added: "I hope it would not come to this."
