Man rescued from flat fire

A MAN was rescued by firefighters after a blaze in the bedroom of a city centre flat.

The man, believed to be in his early 60s, was taken to safety after the fire broke out at Gilmour Street, Southside, just after 9pm last night.

Around 15 firefighters tackled the blaze, the cause of which is now under investigation. However, it is not thought to be suspicious.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said the man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.
