Man injured in gas platform explosion

A man had to be treated for burns after a fire broke out on a gas terminal in the Firth of Forth.

The began in an electric sub-station at Braefoot Bay Marine Gas terminal just after 1.30pm today.

A contractor working in the substation drilled through a wire, causing an electrical surge, police said.

The man, who has not yet been named, was taken to Queen Margaret's Hospital in Dunfermline.

Four appliances from Fife Fire and Rescue extinguished the fire shortly before 3pm.
