Man hurt after car mounted pavement

A DOG walker was the victim of a hit-and-run when a car mounted a pavement and struck him before speeding away from the scene.

The 65-year-old man suffered head injuries when he was knocked down in Glasgow's Pollok area.

He was walking his pet along the city's Cornaig Road with two members of his family when a car mounted the pavement and hit him from behind.

The car, thought to be a silver Mercedes, failed to stop and turned left on to Leithland Road. The man was treated at the Southern General hospital before being released.

Constable Kristopher Hazlett said: "This was a terrifying ordeal for the man and his family which has left them badly shaken.

"I am appealing to anyone who was in the Cornaig Road area on Tuesday or who has any information to contact me.

"The silver car involved must have sustained damage, probably to the front driver's side, and possibly the windscreen, so I would ask that anyone who has seen a car which matches the description to get in touch."

Police appealed for help in catching the culprit from local garages who may have carried out repairs to the Mercedes car, which they believe could be a "high performance" model.

"I would appeal to any garages or car repair workshops who have seen this car to contact police," said a police spokesman.

The dog was not injured in the incident, which took place on Tuesday.
