Local Round-up: Tough task rung up for filmmakers

Young filmmakers from the Capital are being challenged to create an inspirational short film answering the questions "If you could change one thing in your neighbourhood, what would it be? And what could you do to change it?"

The competition is part of the BT initiative Big Voice, which is linked to the London 2012 education programme.

Winners will receive 5000 and support to turn their ideas into a community project.

LECTURERS and students from Stevenson College are on a trip to Spain to come up with ways of introducing sustainability into the curriculum.

The Sustainable Solutions project began last year and is a partnership between nine colleges and schools in seven countries.

Get sporty at fun day for all the family

TANGO dancing, indoor curling and fitness circuits are among the sporting pursuits available at Drum Brae Community Health Family Fun Day next month.

Hosted in the Rannoch Centre, the May 10 event will stock a range of information on health issues and how to access services.

A spokesman said: "We will be offering a programme with something for all ages, interests and energy levels."

Guest house up for award

A GUEST house in the city has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

23 Mayfield, which is run by Ross and Kathleen Birnie, has been shortlisted for the title of Best Guest Accommodation in Scotland at this year's AA B&B awards.

The winner will be announced at an event in London on May 16.

A royal party down to a tea

CHILDREN at Pinocchio's Nurseries across the Lothians will get into the royal wedding spirit next Friday by enjoying afternoon tea.

The girls will dress up as princesses, while the boys will wear soldier outfits.

The nurseries include Gilmerton, Eskbank, Lasswade, Heriot-Watt and Penicuik.

Heat is on for curry-cooking classes

Punjabi women's kitchen, Punjab'n de Rasoi is to launch classes in curry-making.

The social enterprise will offer two-hour classes with vegetarian and meat options, starting at 10am, 11am and 6pm on Mondays and Tuesdays. Participants will receive a handout with the recipe on, and will be able to take the curry home with them. The kitchen is offering an introductory price of 15 per person.

Punjab'n de Rasoi, which also operates a cafe, is on Leith Walk.
