'Humiliated' sheriff 2.6 times over limit

A "HUMILIATED" sheriff who tried to drive home after downing enough booze to make him almost three times the legal limit has been banned from driving for two years and fined £650.

Livingston Sheriff Court heard Robert Anthony, 48, was suffering from depression, and had been drinking on the birthday of his dead father.

He was caught under the influence at the wheel of his 28,000 Lexus on the M8 between Newhouse and Harthill. The high-flying QC spoke from the dock at Livingston Sheriff Court only to confirm his name and guilty plea.

Anthony, of Loaninghill, Uphall, pleaded guilty to driving on the M8 on September 30 with 92 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, more than 2.6 times the legal limit.
