Hibs star to stand trial on cocaine charge

A SCOTTISH Premier League footballer is to stand trial, accused of possessing cocaine.

Garry O’Connor, 28, who plays for Hibernian, denies possessing the class A drug at Hope Street Lane, Edinburgh, on 14 May this year. He is also accused of resisting, obstructing and hindering two police officers who were trying to establish his details, as well as trying to run away.

O’Connor did not appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday, but depute fiscal Iain Batho said a letter had been received on his behalf confirming his plea of not guilty. The trial is expected to take place next year.
