Glasgow train station closed after explosive device found

Police have sealed off a train station in North-West Glasgow to deal with an explosive device that was found in its vicinity.

Kelvindale station, which is on the route between Glasgow Queen Street and Anniesland, was evacuated earlier this morning after the discovery was made on an adjacent canal path.

Officers confirmed that an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD), better known as a bomb squad, was deployed to the area to assess the viability of the device.

A police spokesperson said “At 11.25am on Wednesday, officers discovered an unexploded device on a canal path near Cleveden Road.

“As a precaution, Kelvindale Station has been closed but the railway line remains open.

“Officers have contacted EOD as a precaution and inquires continue to find out if the device is viable or not.”
