Glasgow family charged with child cruelty

Five family members have been charged with child cruelty after allegedly keeping a brother and sister in makeshift cages at their home.

The grandmother, grandfather and three aunts were arrested in Glasgow after the nine-year-old girl they cared for failed to return home from school.

Police investigating the disappearance are understood to have attended the house in the Cardonald area and found converted baby cots allegedly used to keep the girl and her eight-year-old brother in.

The five appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court last Monday charged with cruel and unnatural treatment against a child.
