Girl, 5, dies after falling ill

A FIVE-year-old girl has died after becoming ill, police said yesterday. Tayside Police were called to a house in Arbroath, Angus, yesterday morning after the youngster was reported to have taken unwell.

A post-mortem examination is to be carried out to establish the exact cause of death.

Tayside Police said in a statement: "Officers attended at the house in Noran Avenue at around 10:45am on Saturday, 27 February to find paramedics working on the five-year-old girl. She was taken by ambulance under police escort to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where sadly she was pronounced dead."

A trauma team was dispatched from Ninewells Hospital in Dundee and met up with the ambulance en route. The house where the child was found will be subject of a full forensic examination as a matter of routine, police said.

A report will be submitted to the procurator-fiscal.
