Family's fears over missing man

THE family of a man who has been missing for a week have pleaded for information about his whereabouts.

Richard Lyon, 59, from Kirkmichael in Ayrshire, has not been seen since about 7am last Tuesday.

His Honda CRV car was spotted on the A80 near Castlecary just before 1:30pm that day, but police say no-one has reported having seen it since.

Mr Lyon's son, David Lyon, who flew from his home in Australia to Scotland for the public appeal, said yesterday that his father was a "private" man who was unlikely to ask for help.

Speaking at Ayr police station, he said: "Please, please help us. We need the public to jog their memory to last Tuesday. My dad was a very private and generous man who wouldn't ask for help. He was a very proud, self-sufficient man who loved Scotland and wandering the hills."

Mr Lyon's wife Noreen said: "Any time he went hillwalking he would go with somebody and give me a six-figure reference where he was going, where he parked the car."

Strathclyde Police said Mr Lyon had been feeling "rather low" before he disappeared.

He posted the keys to his car and house to the family home two days after he vanished.

Chief Inspector Neil Kerr, of Ayr police station, said: "As time passes we are becoming increasingly concerned for the well-being of Mr Lyon.

"I am keen to speak to anyone who may have seen his vehicle, a silver Honda Civic CRV, registration plate RJ55 EBP, as it may lead us to Mr Lyon's location."

Mr Lyon is described as being 5ft 10in tall, of medium build and has grey receding hair and beard. He also wears glasses. When he was last seen by his family he was wearing jeans, a T-shirt and trainers.
