Mr Abdi was found lying close to a crashed blue people carrier just after 1am on Sunday.
A second man, understood to be Ahmed, was found injured shortly after police were called to the incident involving Mr Abdi.
Detectives described their response to the shooting, which is thought to be a gang-related incident, as a “cross-Border investigation”.
They said they were looking for at least six men in connection with Mr Abdi’s death.
They have also appealed for information about two cars – a blue VW Sharan, and a silver or grey hatchback – they believe may be linked to the alleged murder.
