David Coulthard shows signs of slowdown

DAVID Coulthard made his name driving Formula 1 racing cars round the world's most demanding tracks at speeds well above 200mph.

But he opted for a more sedate mode of transport yesterday when he opened the Scottish Caravan and Outdoor Leisure Show at the SECC in Glasgow.

Sitting at the wheel of a motor home, Coulthard, 39, spoke of his fond memories of caravan holidays: "As a young child we had fantastic family holidays in caravans.

"You can go to the beaches, you can say 'well I've been there for the day, that was all very nice. I'm not stuck there for two weeks, let's head off somewhere else'."

He said some racing drivers, including Jenson Button, still used motor homes and caravans to travel across Europe. "We've all learned that when you travel extensively you can take your home with you and pick your own scenery, and if you don't like it you up roots and head on to the next view."
