Concern over falls increase

FEARS have been raised over the increase in elderly people falling in the cold weather.

Recent figures have shown an estimated 147 per cent increase in over-65s needing an ambulance after taking a tumble.

The sharp rise has been blamed on the swiftly plummeting temperatures, bringing more than a month of heavy snow and ice.

Liberal Democrat health spokesman Ross Finnie said more had to be done to find out why the figures jumped so much.
