Community News: Medical team are up for a TV challenge

A TEAM of medical centre workers from Edinburgh are getting ready to compete for a £25,000 jackpot on Friday's Postcode Challenge.

The four team members, Liz Forrest, Julie Stout, Anna-Marie Walker and Susan Moir, will go head to head with a team from Coupar, Angus to battle it out for the big cash prize.

The two teams will be tested on their general knowledge in two rounds, before answering light-hearted postcode-related survey questions.

A WEEKEND of events that will be looking at how communities can shape the future of Edinburgh starts on Friday.

Friends of Riddles Court Edinburgh have organised a series of events at Geddes Autumn School, in Riddles Court, under the title Rethinking The City.

Among the topics that will be covered during the events are exploring urban geography, social control, and local democracy.

Debating the management of public buildings

A DEBATE on the challenges faced by community organisations when they take over the management of public buildings is taking place in George Street on Thursday.

Community-led design firm The Glass House will lead the debate exploring the impact of design decisions in the contexts of both new builds and refurbishments on social, economic, environmental, cultural and sustainability in the upper gallery of the RSE Scotland Foundation from 6pm.

Learn about nature's influence

THE influence of nature on the development of Edinburgh as a city will be the subject of the Cockburn Association's annual lecture next month.

Dr Ulrich Loening, a former Edinburgh University lecturer, will give the talk at St Thomas of Aquinas School on October 26.

Milkshakers video moves

Schools and nurseries across Edinburgh are being urged to follow the winning moves of street dance star Akai Osei by making their own video doing the Milkshake dance.

The video challenge is part of a contest to help celebrate World School Milk Day, which takes place on Wednesday.

Men needed for panel role

MEN are needed in Edinburgh to sit on the Children's Panel.

Each panel of three that sits has to have at least one man, but at present far more females are involved.
