Awards raise glass to city's greenest pub

THE West End's Mercat Bar & Restaurant invited green consumers on Sunday to celebrate winning the city's greenest pub competition.

The event was part of the 10/10/10 Global Work Party, the world's largest day of action to fight climate change.

The Mercat Bar won by pledging to reinvest 20 per cent of the additional revenues from the night in energy efficiency retrofits and aims to eventually become Scotland's first carbon neutral bar.

Campaign group 350 presented the winner's certificate to landlord Graham Blaikie, who said: "We've been working away to play our role in reducing the impacts of climate change, so it was fantastic to be awarded the accolade of Edinburgh's Greenest Pub.

"We'll be continuing to reduce our energy consumption with the aim of becoming Scotland's greenest bar."
