Appeal after teenager attacked

POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a teenage girl was subjected to a "terrible" sexual assault.

The 17-year-old was attacked in Fauldhouse, West Lothian, in the early hours of Saturday. She was the victim of what police described as a serious sexual assault after being approached by a man on the B7010 Fauldhouse to Lanrigg Road sometime after 1:50am. .

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "This has been a terrible experience for the young woman involved and we would like to reassure people we are doing all we can to trace the person responsible.

"There will be increased patrols, but we would further appeal for anyone who may have been in the area on Friday night, and who may have seen anything unusual, to come forward.

"We are also keen to talk to anyone who may recognise the suspect and who may have seen him, or the woman, before or after the attack."

Police described the man responsible for the attack as being in his early 20s, between 5ft 10in and 6ft, of medium or athletic build and with a prominent pointed nose.

He was wearing a dark hoody, tracksuit bottoms with two stripes down each leg and may also have been wearing a hat.
