AA fleet moves off-road to start drive into home repairs

BRITAIN'S "fourth emergency service" is to venture off road and into members' homes.

The Automobile Association is planning a nationwide fleet of handymen and women to carry out domestic duties. In addition to coming to the aid of stricken motorists, the AA will deal with householders' broken boilers, faulty wiring and leaking pipes. They will even hang pictures, build garden fences and install bathrooms.

AA Services chief executive Andrew Strong said: "The car is the second biggest purchase for most families after their home.

"Millions of car owners have trusted the AA to help them on the roadside for more than 100 years. We now want to extend that trust and help AA members in the home."
