325 mile charity cycle no obstacle

Private Paul Lambert, from 1 SCOTS (Royal Scots Borderers), lost both his legs and was 30 seconds away from death as a result of an IED explosion during a routine foot patrol.

The blast threw him into the air. Pte. Lambert said: "I didn't feel any pain whatsoever, it was just the adrenaline pumping through and I felt tingling in my legs.

"The last thing I remember hearing was my sergeant shouting 'grab his legs'. I thought I still had them, but I didn't."

The former Musselburgh Grammar School pupil spent three months in the hospital, during which he underwent a gruelling 15 operations, including having the remainder of his left leg amputated from the top of his thigh. He also lost a finger on his right hand and suffered damage to his pelvis.

Last month he joined injured British and American servicemen on a 325 mile charity cycle from Brussels to Arnhem in the Netherlands, to raise funds for the charity.
