2015 target 'too early'

The 2015 target date for the digital radio switchover is "far too early" for the preparations needed, a government report says.

The report, compiled by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport's consumer expert group (CEG), says if the government wants people to voluntarily adopt digital radio, there should be an independent public information body.

Last year's Digital Britain white paper recommended digital switchover takes place two years from the point when digital accounts for 50 per cent of radio listening. But the CEG report recommends 70 per cent.
