One-way traffic for 18 months during building refurbishment

A TEMPORARY one-way traffic system is to be introduced in Haddington town centre for around 18 months.

The system will allow refurbishment works to be carried out to the Sinclair McGill building, in preparation for the John Gray Centre.

East Lothian Council's environment spokesman, Councillor Barry Turner, said: "The new archive, library, museum and heritage centre for East Lothian is being developed at the Sinclair McGill building, which is situated on Market Street and Lodge Street. To allow work vehicles access to this site it is necessary to reduce the traffic flow on Market Street to single flow. This means that a circular route of one-way traffic in Haddington town centre will be introduced during this work.

"Transportation staff are siting a number of advisory signs and changing the road markings to ensure both local residents and visitors are aware of the correct traffic regulation during this time."

The work will get under way on Monday.
