Spark Energy powering up with new jobs

The new posts include customer service, IT, finance, legal and training jobs, and will take the total number of staff at the Selkirk-headquartered firm to more than 400. Recruits will receive their induction at Spark’s newly-opened training academy, officially opened by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
Set up in 2007, Spark provides a specialist service for rental properties to help landlords smooth the transition between tenants. It has customers from across the UK’s private rental sector, and has more recently been expanding its presence in social housing.

Hide AdThe company is one of the biggest private-sector employers in the Scottish Borders, where unemployment is above the national average. Chris Gauld, chief executive and co-founder of Spark, said the majority of staff live within ten miles of Selkirk.
“Our investment in the academy means that those joining the company, including the 69 jobs announced today, will receive their induction and training in a purpose-built facility that reflects our ambition, our culture, values and the professional standards we set,” said Gauld, who recently won the energy category at the national EY Entrepreneur Of The Year awards.
“I’m excited to see us develop more and better ways to attract new talent to Spark through our school and college links, as well as our growing apprentice programme.”
