It's Miller time for Perth's I&H Brown

Perth-based I&H Brown has signalled its plans for the future by appointing the head of its development division, Allan Miller, to the main board.

The energy and civil engineering firm is a developer of brownfield sites and has expertise in the clean up of contaminated land. Managing director Scott Brown said the appointment was "an indication of how much we value the development division and the enormous potential we see in this market" .

Scottish Widows Investment Partnership has strengthened its global strategy team with an international transfer. Emilio Cano joins as investment manager from Popular Banca Privada in Madrid where he had responsibility for asset allocation and portfolio strategy decisions. Cano is also a lecturer in risk management, derivatives and portfolio construction, with experience at several Madrid universities.

In another international move, Standard Life Investments hired Debbie Harris from BNP Paribas Investment Partners as head of strategic consultant relations for its institutional business development team.

But the financial movers couldn't match the globetrotting of the GlenDronach single malt from Forgue in Aberdeenshire.

Thanks to GlenDronach's New Zealand agents Whisky Galore, a team of intrepid American scientists enjoyed a warming dram of the 15-year-old tipple at the South Pole.

Whisky Galore's owner Michael Fraser Milne explains: "Last year we suggested to a group of (polar scientists] that whoever sends us the best whisky-related photo from Antarctica will win a prize, and they certainly didn't disappoint. Pictures flooded in and the winner was one of our regular customers, Thomas Da Cosse, whose pictures were our favourites."
