Geordie travel card gets Scots support

TWO Scottish technology firms have won a contract to process thousands of smart card transactions for Nexus, Tyne and Wear’s transport authority.

East Kilbride firm Ecebs and Glasgow-based website hosting outfit Iomart will validate and record passengers’ journeys using cards and mobile phones.

Ecebs’ system will also become the backbone of a London Oyster Card-style travel network in the west of Scotland after a recent deal with Strathclyde Partnership for Travel to “deliver contactless payments across all forms of travel in the region”.
