Underwear collection will raise funds for breast cancer charity

IT GIVES a whole new meaning to airing your laundry in public.

Fundraising former Edinburgh 'it' girl Pippa Brooks-Donaldson has decided to hang her bras on the railings outside her home for charity - and she is encouraging others to leave theirs too.

Ms Donaldson, formerly Pippa Macleod, who lives at Heriot Row, is asking women across the Capital to leave unwanted bras hanging at her New Town flat on Friday October 29 so that she can raise money for charity.

She is also set to make around 100 jellied breasts to rake in some extra cash.

The appeal, by Cancer Research UK, gets a 1 donation for every kilo of bras donated. Usable bras are also donated to the Third World.

Her self-labelled 'bung a bra' day coincides with the Wear it Pink initiative, which encourages people to dress up exclusively in the girly colour next Friday.

She said: "It's a bit naughty, but all in good fun. I'm looking to collect as many bras as possible. People can just chuck them over. I want to be drowning in bras.

"I also absolutely love pink so I'll be glammed up head-to-toe in pink on the big day. Pink fishnets, pink heels, everything! I'm sure people will think me a bit mad, but it'll just be like having a huge, naughty washing line.

"I've bought some moulds and ingredients for the jelly breasts, which includes strawberry jelly, jelly tots and icing sugar. They'll be wobbly and a bit rude, but it's quite acceptable on this occasion. I'll be selling my jellies on for at least 50p a breast, but I'm hoping for a bigger donation."

She added: "It's a bit shocking airing my bras in public, not the sort of thing you see on the street every day.

"I've never experienced breast cancer myself, but friends have and it is truly awful. I couldn't think of a better cause."

High society girl Pippa, who counts several celebrities including Lorraine Kelly amongst her pals, said she would be taking all the bras to her women-only gym Curves, in Stockbridge, and they would pass on the lingerie to charity.

She will be selling her jellied breasts through the gym, which has so far collected a couple of hundred bras.

Manager Carol Harris said: "We thought it was an excellent campaign and will do anything to raise awareness. On the day we'll be all in pink, and we're allowing people to join free this month if they make a good donation of at least 20. A lot of people have been much more generous. Next month we've got an eight-week free trial offer too."
