Hurricane Bawbag features in new Irvine Welsh book

HURRICANE Bawbag, which wreaked havoc in Scotland in December 2011, is set to feature in Irvine Welsh’s new novel.

A Decent Ride - billed as Welsh’s ‘funniest, filthiest book yet’ - is set in Edinburgh, and centres around sex-obsessed taxi driver ‘Juice’ Terry Lawson.

In the book, which is Welsh’s 10th novel, Hurricane Bawbag is busy causing chaos on the streets of the Scottish capital as drug-dealing Terry searches for missing beauty Jinty Magdalen, while trying to keep her lover Wee Jonty McKay - described by the publishers as a ‘man with the genitals and brain of a donkey’ - out of trouble.

Disaster strikes for Terry later in the book when a ‘terrible life event’ robs him of his sexual prowess, and he develops a love for golf.

Terry first appeared in the 2001 novel Glue, enjoying a fleeting mention in Filth, and had his own story in the Reheated Cabbage short story collection.

Hurricane Bawbag, officially titled Cyclone Friedhelm, hit Scotland in the early part of December 2011, with winds measuring up to 80mph reported in parts of the country.

A Decent Ride will be released in April 2015.
