A theme highlighting the club’s young supporters and MyGers club members including pictures, photographs and drawings ran throughout the day – and some artistry provided amusement in the team line-up.

@sarckybas: Not to shabby a lineup. Like the drawings too. Paterson’s is a good likeness too.

Many fans, though, were surprised to see Jermain Defoe miss out and Scott Wright return to the bench.

@Craig_stewart88: “As strong as you’ll get. Statement Rangers.”

Fraser Sloan: “Scotty Wright can feel a bit hard done by. Class in the cup game. Shown glimpses of what we’ve got in cameo appearances."

@DarrenG76144296: “I thought he would have started Wright today.”

@sm87: “I would say he [Scott Wright] deserves a start over Roofe he adds that pace to attack.

Gary Chittick: “I know you need to get Stewart to nine games for a medal (although the club can produce their own for the rest of the #55 winning squad) but Defoe should be there.”

James Connelly: “Good line up, I'd like to see Arfield start for that bit of dig in midfield.”

Steven Gerrard has warned the team are playing for places in next weekend’s Scottish Cup Old Firm clash.

@martinsuth90: “Probably next weeks team. Surprised he has opted for Aribo ahead of Arfield.”

@stephdavis32: “Same team to play Celtic.”

@Gazzacusgxo: “Strong team! Strange going into a game with zero pressure. Yes love to win it not lose to keep unbeaten run going but knowing if we do it doesn’t matter. Could get used to this!”
