Roger Federer dons kilt to promote charity match with Andy Murray

Tennis legend Roger Federer is more often than not spotted showing off his pins in shorts on the court.

But, in an expected turn of events, the Swiss star graced the internet with a video of himself donning Scottish national dress.

The video, posted on the player’s Twitter feed, is helping to promote his Match for Africa clash with Andy Murray on 17 April 2017.

The game - which will take place in Zurich - is in aid of the Federer Foundation which helps to better the lives of children living in poverty in some of the world’s most deprived countries through educations.

In the video, Federer thanks the current World No 1 for agreeing to play, adding that he promised to “try everything to make you feel at home.”

The camera pans out to show him wearing a red tartan kilt with white tennis shoes.

He also attempts to play bagpipes, before bursting into laughter saying: “I tried.”

This will be the third Match for Africa Federer has organised, having previously played Rafa Nadal and Stan Wawrinka.

The former World No 1 said: “I am extremely happy that Andy – one of the best tennis players in the world – immediately agreed to come to Zurich to help raise money for my foundation.

“However, I’m even happier that I’ll finally get to play in front of my fans again next spring.”

Federer hopes his foundation will raise enough money to reach a million children by 2018.
