Liz McColgan on move as Angus house up for sale

The Seoul Olympic silver medallist, 48, is selling her family home, Panbride House, near Carnoustie, Angus.

She lived in the nine-bedroom house with husband Peter before the couple split. The health club she ran went bust with reported debts of £800,000.

Horror film icon Peter Cushing once took summer holidays in the B-Listed property, which is on sale for offers over £720,000.

The sale could also include a three-bedroom lodge, for offers over £150,000.

The former track star is also willing to part with the Liz McColgan Health Club and Physiotherapy Centre – including swimming pool, gym, fitness room and office – as well as adjoining holiday homes for the right price.

Estate agent Savills describes the property as a “fine country house, close to the coast”.

Yesterday, Ruaraidh Ogilvie, of Savills in Brechin, Angus, said: “I can confirm that we have Mrs McColgan’s house on the market.”

The house was built in 1856 for a wealthy flax merchant. A coat of arms above the front door and date stone on the gable are among several period features, along with cornicings and panelled doors.

The McColgans bought the house in 1993 for £290,000.

The building is protected by electric gates and includes a billiards room.

The house also comes with six acres of land, a tennis court and gardens with “shrubs and rhododendrons”.

McColgan won silver in the 10,000 metres at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

She won gold in the 10,000 metres at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh and repeated the feat four years later in Auckland, New Zealand. She also won gold in the event at the World Championships in Tokyo in 1991.
