Video: diving the Dresden

Sunken 40 metres off the coast of Orkney lies some of the last vestiges of the once grand German WW1 fleet.

Here in the ghostly-green waters of Scapa Flow lies the scuttled wreckage of a conflict which, like the vessels sunk by the allied forces, is slowly fading from memory.

This video featured shows the SMS Dresden, a German Imperial Navy light cruiser, that was part of the 1919 scuttled fleet at Scapa Flow,

“In ten years time there won’t be much left of the fleet that was scuttled here, said Lindsay Brown of water-based film service Stray Seal who recorded the footage.

“It can be dark and disorientating to start off with but once you start exploring the wreck it becomes dreamlike and peaceful.

“I think the film gets that across.”
