Under the Radar: Elia Davidson

Elia Davidson might not be able to give her new album a live launch later this month, but that won’t prevent it from making an impact, predict Olaf Furniss and Derick Mackinnon

We first met Elia Davidson back in 2016 at an Off The Record youth event that we were hosting in her native Dumfries, not too long after she had won the Amnesty International Youth Awards songwriting competition. She went on to further hone her live skills locally while finishing school, before moving to Edinburgh a couple of years later. There she has emerged as a most impressive talent.

On 23 October, Davidson self-releases her EP Hit & Run, a collection of four stripped-back songs carried by her resounding vocals and melodies, which possess an almost hymnal quality. While a traditional live launch might be off the agenda at the moment, for obvious reasons, she is set to record a performance at the Theatre Royal in her home town which will be streamed as part of the Dumfries Music Conference on 17 October. In the meantime, get a flavour of what is to come with the track Driftwood. For more information visit www.eliadavidson.weebly.com
