Theatre review: Escape from the Planet of the Day that Time Forgot

This affectionate spoof of British 1950s sci-fi films is, at best, amiable tosh.

Star rating: **

Venue: Assembly Roxy (Venue 139)

But it adds precisely zilch to such well-worn territory. Though gamely performed by three agreeable actors, it’s wearily over-reliant on self-reflexive gags about clunky exposition and outdated social attitudes.

Inventively staged using nothing more than cardboard boxes, an ironing board and a Dustbuster, it’s still weak, arch, pedestrian stuff.

Until 29 August. Today 11:50am.
