Delivered with a panto-esque panache, this mystery from Z Theatre Company doesn’t take itself seriously – although, unlike their other show, Grannies With Guns, the writing is more silly than sharp.

Partly a pastiche of the kind of small-town places that run vegetable competitions, it has the potential to be an affectionate comedy about village life.

However, broad, heightened humour is what it’s all about, rather than subtly observed social commentary. “On to the next case,” someone shouts at the end. “Is that an aubergine?”
