Starry new look promised for Big Apple’s Tartan Week celebrations

SCOTTISH actors Brian Cox and Kevin McKidd are to front the flagship fashion event of New York’s Tartan Week celebrations, it emerged last night.

Geoffrey Scott Carroll, founder of Dressed to Kilt, who has been embroiled in a legal wrangle since last year’s event, has unveiled a new-look charity fundraiser, From Scotland With Love.

A benefit for the Cash for Kids charity, the kilts and tartan showcase is being fronted by tycoon Sir Tom Hunter and former First Minister Lord McConnell.

Mr Carroll said: “We are anticipating that this year’s show will be the best ever.

“We will be taking a fresh and new approach to the subject – there will be new and bold initiatives which have been our trademark”.

Lord McConnell added: “This incredible event shines a light on the Scottish fashion industry, but there is also a strong philanthropic side to it.

“This event raises funds for causes that are close to the hearts of the people of Scotland and I am delighted that this year Cash for Kids will benefit.”

The fashion show is seen as one of the highlights of Tartan Week – which also includes a huge parade down Sixth Avenue. Previous shows have seen actors Mike Myers, Andie McDowell, Alan Cumming and Kyle MacLachlan donning kilts to strut down the catwalk.
