OPEN-AIR theatre at its best, that’s how one critic described the work of Chapterhouse Theatre Company, who return to the beautiful gardens of Hopetoun House on Sunday.

This time, they roll into South Queensferry to entertain with the greatest love story ever told - Shakespeare’s unforgettable tale of romance, passion and star-crossed lovers, Romeo And Juliet (picture below).

Of course, open-air theatre lends itself perfectly to pre-show picnics, so the grounds will be open from 6pm. You are, however, advised to bring along a rug or low-backed seating. Then all you need do is sit back, indulge in a glass of chilled summer wine, and watch a wonderfully traditional evening of entertainment. And hope it doesn’t rain

THE IDIOT AT THE WALL

FIRST Bicycle Theatre Company in association with Falling Cutlery present this new play by Elspeth Turner at The Pleasance this week.

Set on a Hebridean island in the wake of World War One, The Idiot at the Wall sees a traditional way of life struggle against the encroachment of the modern world.

With Gaelic songs celebrating her personal island heritage, Turner’s play entwines myth and reality into a haunting tale that is rooted in traditional Hebridean storytelling.

LEITH FESTIVAL 2012

ALL roads lead to Leith Links this Saturday as the annual pageant through the streets marks the start of ten days of theatre, music and comedy. There are also art exhibitions to visit, break dance classes to take part in and guided tours to enjoy.
