SoS team up for awards

SCOTLAND on Sunday journalists have picked up 16 nominations for this year’s Scottish Press Awards.

Eddie Barnes, the newspaper’s political editor, has been nominated for political journalist of the year. Robert Perry has been nominated in both the news photographer of the year and the sports photographer of the year categories. Ian Rutherford and Jane Barlow are also shortlisted in the news photographer category.

Peter Ross is shortlisted for the magazine writer of the year award, as is Claire Black and Chitra Ramaswamy. Deputy editor Kenny Farquharson is nominated for columnist of the year.

Aidan Smith is shortlisted for arts/entertainment journalist and sports feature writer.

Anna Burnside is nominated in the newspaper feature writer category.

Tom English is up for both the sports feature writer of the year and the sports news writer of the year awards.

Brian Adcock is nominated in the cartoonist of the year category, which he has won for the past two years, and the newspaper is up for the front page of the year award for its dramatic presentation of the fighting in Libya with a picture that showed a stricken jet fighter.

Scotland on Sunday’s sister paper The Scotsman has picked up 12 nominations and our other stablemate, the Edinburgh Evening News, five. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in April.
